Solar Site Asssessment

IMPORTANCE OF SOLAR SITE ASSESSMENT

Before considering the installation of a solar electric system for your home or business you should consider getting a solar site assessment by a certified site assessor. Some home sites are not ideal for solar installations.  Shading will have a significant impact on the performance of a solar system. The orientation of your roof space and other factors affect the performance.  The purpose of the assessment is to make recommendations as to size and location of your solar energy system to produce the maximum electricity in the most effective way.  If your site assessment shows you have a good solar window between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM with south facing roof, your system will have good production.

You may also have good production with East or West facing roofs if they are unobstructed with a good pitch and you may only lose about 10% efficiency with either direction.  A solar site assessment will help you determine accurate production for your property.

Illinois is a good state for solar energy production.  A cold sunny day in the winter will produce more energy from the array than on a hot summer day. On average throughout the year Chicago has 4.4 sun hours a day
